Ergonomics and the Aging Workforce
The Lake County Safety Council is proud to present the February monthly program --- Ergonomics and the Aging Workforce --- on Friday, February 17. The keynote speaker will be Diana Schwerha, PhD., professor, Ohio University. Among other items, Dr. Schwerha will explore how companies can design their work environments to make them safe and productive for aging employees. Dr. Schwerha has been in the field of aging and ergonomics for nearly 15 years, and she currently serves as an associate professor in the department of industrial and systems engineering in the Ross College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University. Covering a wide variety of industries, she will discuss how to design work to make it compatible with the user, how to apply ergonomics to enable cost and time savings while reducing the risk of injury and she will talk about both physical and cognitive ergonomics. Previously Dr. Schwerha worked with NIOSH in Pittsburgh where she led a project titled Age Awareness Training for Miners. Her work related to aging and ergonomics has focused on designing safe and productive work environments for an aging workforce. The meeting will be held at the Villa Croatia Event Venue & Party Center (The Croatian Lodge), 34900 Lakeshore Blvd., Eastlake, OH 44095, with registration beginning at 11:15 a.m. The cost of the event is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
