Electrical Safety Awareness - Top 10 Problems to Look For
The Lake County Safety Council is proud to present the December program --- Electrical Safety Awareness - The Top 10 Problems to Look For - on Friday, December 12. The keynote speaker will be Tom Riley, CSP, FirstEnergy. He is a senior safety and health specialist for FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company. Riley will discuss the importance of being aware of the characteristics of electricity so you can recognize unsafe conditions before an accident occurs. Frayed cords, damaged insulation, daisy chaining and overloading all are stepping stones to tragedy, but are avoidable with a basic understanding of how electricity works and why. For the past 17 years Riley has worked in the external business office of FirstEnergy's BETA Laboratory providing safety and health services to more than 200 companies across the country He has supported numerous industries from plastics to food processing and mechanical contractors. He is a certified safety professional, a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, an OSHA authorized instructor for general industry and construction and was a trainer for the mid-America OSHA training institute. He will address issues such as: ---How electricity acts and why (it is easier to understand than how reindeer fly) ---Grounding (it is not just for disciplining children) ---Ground Fault Circuit interrupters (whose fault is it?) ---Electrical lighting hazards (a shocking revelation) The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites LaMalfa, with registration beginning at 11:15 a.m. The cost of the event is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
