Global Harmonization System - It is Coming
The Lake County Safety Council is proud to host Scott Cole, corporate safety director for Pinnacle Construction and Development Group. He will present an overview of Global Harmonization System (GHS) at the Friday, February 22 Lake County Safety Council meeting. At Pinnacle Construction, Cole is responsible for maintaining the safety of employees and projects at the NASA Glenn Reserach Center. Cole is a board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) as well as a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS). The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites LaMalfa, with registration beginning at 11:15 a.m. OSHA recently revised its Hazard Communication Standard to allign with the international global Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. As a result, manufacturers and distributors of hazardous chemicals and products must begin to standardize how they categorize the hazards of their products, as well as the information and format of their container labels and safety data sheets. OSHA has given employers until December 1, 2013 to train their employees on all of the required elements of the new labeling systems and safety data sheets. Cole will discuss the changes from MSDS to SDS and the new requirements, such as; classifications, signal words, pictograms and hazard statements, and the changes necessary for each employer to comply wiht the new Hazard Communication Standard.
