Lake Co. Safety Council Presents Hands-Only CPR
The Lake County Safety Council is proud to host Dr. Howard Mell and his team of instructors from Lake Health, who will discuss, and demonstrate, "Hands-Only CPR." He will address the most commonly asked questions, and then he will circulate in the room to answer individual questions while attendees are in training sessions with the instructors. Dr. Mell is the Lake Health EMS medical director and the associate medical director for the TriPoint Medical Center Emergency Department. Providing Hands-Only CPR to an adult who has collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest prior to EMS arriving can more than double, even triple, that person's chance of survival. After his introductory presentation the audience will be segmented into eight-person training groups and Dr. Mell's team will demonstrate (with active audience participation) the training. There will be several training tables and there will be two training manikins per table According to the American Heart Association, more than 300,000 people are treated by EMS for cardiac arrest every year, but 97 percent die because CPR and defibrillation are not provided soon enough. The new life saving technique, Hands-Only CPR, is gaining national recognition, and everyone completing the training will be given a certificate The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites LaMalfa, with registration beginning at 11:15 a.m. The cost of the event is $20 for members and $25 for non-members, and reservations may be made online at the LCSC web site listed below.
