LCSC Safety Expo Returns - Wednesday, May 17

The steering committee for the Lake County Safety Council is proud to present the May program ---  The Return of the LCSC Safety Expo -- on Wednesday, May 17 at Lakeland Community College.

The goal of the Lake County Safety Council’s Safety Expo is to help attendees find out how effective workplace safety and health programs can increase the overall productivity of their business or organization.

Attendees may choose from nearly 20 classes and informational sessions to help learn ways to improve the safety, well-being and quality of life for their workplace. They also can speak with more than two dozen vendors and sponsors who will be attending the event about safety related equipment and services – all for one $35 admission fee. The admission fee includes all seminars and classes, breakfast and lunch. Note: two special classes below have additional fees to cover materials and testing.

Classes will begin immediately following registration and breakfast (7:15 to 8 a.m.).

Attendance at the expo qualifies for safety council rebate program external training credit and group rating two-hour training credit…both with the submission of a certificate of attendance to a sponsoring organization. LCSC members receive one regular safety council rebate meeting credit.

Highlighting this year’s expo are two new special offerings Blood Borne Pathogens and Heart Saver/First Aid. (additional fees)

Also, please note - A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training is being offered.

The opening keynote address will be provided by Chad Dunlap an experienced and esteemed public speaker, delivering an educational, inspirational and entertaining message. He attempts to drive home support and motivation for those battling heavy topics.

The afternnon keynote speaker is Howard Eberts, the area director for the Department of Labor-OSHA, who will discuss OSHA enforcement updates. He will cover OSHA inspection statistics and results; and review recent significant OSHA enforcement actions.

Classes have a limited number of seats, so early registration is encouraged. The deadline for registration to guarantee your spot is Monday, May 15.

PERRP Celebrates 30 Years

Did you know that for over 30 years 600,000 state and local government workers in Ohio have had the same safety and health protection on the job in Ohio that private employers have under OSHA?

Central Ohio Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction

Join us Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 7:15 - 8:30 a.m. for a safety demonstration on fall prevention. Presenters will discuss equipment inspections, fall prevention, rescue plans, and a live drop test.

BWC Library Question of the Month A question received by the library over the past month with our response.

Question: Can you help me locate the BWC language for a Violation for a Specific Safety Violation (VSSR) language or Additional Award clause?

Answer:

  1. Information about the VSSR benefit can be found on the BWC website.
  2. The rule is in the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) "Additional awards by reason of violations of specific safety requirements." The Industrial Commission still maintains jurisdiction over the VSSR process.
  3. The Safety Violations Investigation Unit (SVIU) has a brochure.
  4. Links to the current specific safety requirements are in the OAC 4123:1 at the bottom of the page.
  5. PDF scans of the historical/archived specific safety requirements are on the BWC Library page.

If you have question related to occupational safety and health, email the library at library@bwc.state.oh.us
