Distracted Driving, Texting and Other - On The Road - Safety Issues
The steering committee for the Lake County Safety Council is proud to present the February program --- Distracted Driving, Texting and Other - On The Road - Safety Issues - with keynote speaker Ohio State Police Highway Patrol Officer William Head. The Thursday, February 16 luncheon program at LaVera Event and Party Center, 32200 Chardon Road, Willoughby Hills, OH 44094, is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration begins at 11:15 a.m. This training event is provided to you by the LCSC steering committee. Ohio law bans all "handheld electronic wireless communications device" usage for drivers under 18 years old, and texting while driving is illegal for all drivers as a secondary offense. The program is aimed at presenting a brief overview and review of relevant Distracted Driving Safety and Texting Issues and Regulations. The presentation will cover items such as: Distracted Driving: Ohio - IT Can Wait; statistics on all distrcted driving crashes and fatal crashes; the definition of distracted driving and potential additional consequences of distracted driving related accidents. Handouts will include: a media release from the Ohio State Highway Partol on Distracted Driving Awareness Month; a Traffic Safety Bulletin with several distracted driving facts and a Post Commander Talking Points sheet regarding safe driving. From 2017 thru 2021 there were more than 64,000 crashes in Ohio that involved one or more drivers who were distracted. Trooper Head has been with the Ohio State Highway Police for more than 23 years. He has been at the Chardon Patrol Post for three years where he is a senior trooper. He has worked with other agencies with drug and criminal intervention details; as a driving instructor at the training academy; as the member of the mobile field force and also is knowledgable in the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system. He has received numerous honors and awards with commendation letters from the public on health and fitnes; and safe driving. SAVE THE DATE: Thursday, February 16, 2023.
