BWC Fall Prevention Stand-Down EventsNational Stand Down to Prevent Falls in Construction A free virtual National Safety Stand-Down Event, was held Monday May 3, from 11 a.m. until noon. OSHA, BWC’s Division of Safety & Hygiene, the Ohio Public Employment Risk Reduction Program (PERRP), and the OSHA On-Site Consultation Program are co-sponsors for this FREE live event. Prevent Falls in All Industries Falls are a major cause in workplace deaths and injuries. The annual Fall Stand Down focuses on construction. In this event we focus on slips, trips, and, falls across all industries. OSHA kicks off the event and BWC staff follow with strategies for preventing slips, trips, and falls using the hierarchy of controls. We challenge employers to act and get involved. Ohio Offers Workplace Vaccination ClinicsOhio has begun working with employers and other organizations to offer workplace vaccination clinics. Vaccine providers can allot up to 25 percent of their vaccine allocation to be used to vaccinate their own employees or to partner with local employers, labor unions, churches, and other organizations to vaccinate their employees at their work locations. Employers and organizations are encouraged to reach out to their local health department and vaccine providers to set up vaccination clinics. The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has updated its vaccination guidance for employers and organizations. To read it, click here (PDF). All Ohioans 16 years old and older are eligible for vaccinations at clinics and sites across the state. NIOSH/CDC NewsNew Survey Instrument Available from NIOSH to Help Assess Worker Well-Being NIOSH published a new survey instrument called the NIOSH Worker Well-Being Questionnaire (NIOSH WellBQ). This new tool is intended to help researchers, employers, workers, practitioners, and policymakers understand workers’ well-being as a holistic construct and target interventions to improve worker well-being. The survey takes about 15-minutes for a worker to complete and covers five areas of worker well-being: - Work Evaluation and Experience.

New Factsheet on Upper-room Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation CDC published this new webpage about upper-room ultraviolent germicidal irradiation (UVGI), which can be effective at reducing exposures to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in some group settings. UVGI uses ultraviolet (UV) energy to kill viral, bacterial, and fungal organisms. CDC recommends a layered strategy for reducing exposures to infectious viral particles including other ventilation interventions. BWC’s COVID-19 Indoor Air Quality Assistance Program may help cover the costs of inspections, assessments, maintenance, and improvements to indoor heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to control the spread of COVID-19. Opioid Overdose Deaths Video This new video from NIOSH describes the data on overdoses in the workplace and is based on the NIOSH fact sheet on the use of Naloxone in the workplace. The video helps employers decide if making Naloxone available at their workplace is right for them. Vaccine Site Safety The CDC created two new fact sheets, one on conserving sharps disposal containers to address supply shortages and one on reducing needlestick injuries for vaccinators and others assisting at COVID-19 vaccination sites. COVID-19 Vaccine Resources for Construction The Center for Construction Research and Training developed frequently asked questions and four infographics to help the construction industry understand the science and benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine in collaboration with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler and NIOSH.
