BWC Information Updates - W-9 Forms and Face Masks

W-9 Forms - Please

Earlier this month the BWC issues $5 billion in dividends to employer customers to ease the impact of COVID-19 on their bottom line. This is the third dividend this year, with all three totaling nearly $8 billion, some or all of which may be taxable to recipients. Employers should consult their tax adviser.

Accordingly, t6he BWC needs to update their files to ensure they have a current W-9 tax form on file for their employers.

Employers, please send the BWC your W-9 by Dec. 31, 2020. They apologize for the urgency. This is a requirement of the Internal Revenue Service.

Employers can upload the form on the BWC website using their Upload W-9 service offering, the preferred method. They can also mail the BWCa W-9 (find the form on the IRS website) to Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, 30 W. Spring St., Columbus, OH 43215.

Please note: Employers must include their BWC-issued policy number in Line 7, which asks for their account number. This will help the BWC more efficiently match a W-9 with a business.

For more, please call the BWC customer contact center at 1-800-644-6292.

Face Masks

The BWC is distributing a second round of face masks to private and public employer customers. This round includes another 23 million masks aimed at weakening the spread of COVID-19. The BWC expects the -- Protecting Ohio’s Workforce – We’ve Got You Covered -- initiative to continue through June 2021. Employers will not be billed for the masks. Read more on our website.

COVID-19 updates

BWC has been busy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to issuing nearly $8 billion in dividends and millions of face masks to employers, they are administering a federally funded program – COVID-19 Indoor Air Quality Assistance Program – to help nursing homes and similar facilities upgrade their HVAC systems to mitigate COVID-19’s spread. In addition, they are working with the Ohio Department of Health at Governor Mike DeWine’s behest to ensure Ohio retailers and their customers are following state-mandated COVID-19 safety protocols (see Retail Compliance Unit).
